Thanks for putting this together. I started one, but got sidetracked.
I was lightly involved in this study. Throughout I was struck by how much we constrain the lives of people with learning disabilities and reduce their choices, sometimes to a binary: 'do you want to do this, or this?' when really neither would be what the person would like to do. Great paper.
A necessary step is to develop methodological innovation to understand what people with intellectual disabilities value and what it might take to achieve this.
We argue radical change in what support is funded should include consideration of the development of opportunities for people to undertake meaningful activities and be fully out in the world.
Focusing on what people do allows lowered expectations to remain the norm and may even be considered good.
