At a School Library Journal Summit in 2022, a presenter said that a particular book was not "great literature", but that it saved kids lives. How can that NOT be great literature? We have to stop apologizing for & shaming literacy. If a book matters to someone, it matters. Period.
The older I get, the less sure I am about things like what "counts" as great literature. I mean, Shakespeare often just straight up went for lewd jokes and body humor. How is that all that different from Dog Man? 🤷♀️ (and Dog Man isn't even lewd!)
