I don't know whether or not the PRC government exploits TikTok to spy on or influence the US populace But if the US regulated privacy and safety for *all* social media companies with laws similar to the GDPR and DSA in Europe, then that would protect the US without doing anything special for TikTok

Unless sanctions are going to be placed equally among all SNS, it makes no sense to punish one for doing the same thing the others all do. Enact legislation that protects user privacy and data rather than legislation that punishes one singular individual company for being "Chinese", dear lord...

It's such a common sense solution, but I'm sure lobbying plays a part in ensuring it won't happen.
