Yes. Fruits and vegetables. I think about it often. More than half of what we eat today was cultivated by Indigenous farmers in this hemisphere. Living generations owe them such a debt; we couldn't sustain as many people without the foods they created over the millennia.
I’m now in charge of both our library’s seed library and garden, as well as educational programs and grants related to them. It’s A LOT to think about!
I routinely sit in amazement thinking about grafting, one of the most basic horticultural techniques without which we wouldn’t have a good amount of stuff we have at the grocery store.
