This painting by the Xuande Emperor of the Ming (1399-1435) is titled "laughter". Why? Because the character for "laughter" 笑 has an older form 𥬇 in which the lower part is written as "dog" 犬, so a dog sitting under bamboo is a meme for laughter 🤣🤣
