🧀 The Cheese Riot of 1764 🧀 In 1764 the people of Nottingham were so angry about cheese prices that they gatecrashed the city Goose Fair & knocked the mayor over with a massive piece of cheese. The military were drafted in. 🧀🧀🧀🧀🧀
They were really cheesed off.
Definitely nacho average riot! They seemed to have gouda reason to be upset. The cheese prices were truly un brie-lievable.
3d per lb about a 13th of a farm worker’s daily wage, and that’s if you were buying in bulk, not surprised they were livid.
This seems eminently reasonable.
A cwt (UK) is 112 pounds (8 stone, 50.8 kg)
What a cheesy story 🙄😁
The prices at my local farmers market for anything but fruit and vegetables would drive me to riot, too, if I was at all dependent on it.
They gratecrashed the fair
Ahhh the Midlands
I'm so proud of my hometown. This is well worth a listen. www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m...
