My favorite performance in the Spielberg universe.
Just learned today that THE SUBSTANCE (which I havenât seen) is a few minutes longer than MEGALOPOLIS (which I have, and would gladly see again tomorrow before I sit down for a 141-minute elevated body horror thatâs longer than two and a half Val Lewtons).

When it comes to Stevie Wonderâs greatest, there really are only right answers so far as Iâm concerned. (Some of my âright answersâ that fwiw didnât make the list: âGolden Lady,â âToo Shy To Say,â âMy Eyes Donât Cry,â âAnother Star,â and âSummer Star.â The man is popâs greatest genius!)

I often think about when David Lean quit movie directing because of one cutting remark by Pauline Kael. I circle back on it because I remember roughly 15 years ago when a film critic I admire mocked my writing style in the comments section of another criticâs blog. I get why Lean did what he did.
