I often think about when David Lean quit movie directing because of one cutting remark by Pauline Kael. I circle back on it because I remember roughly 15 years ago when a film critic I admire mocked my writing style in the comments section of another criticās blog. I get why Lean did what he did.
Iām sure the BICYCLE THIEVES thing is explained elsewhere but thatās a true flex. (If Iām being honest, I guess my equivalent is THE THIRD MAN, but I also am tired of my own position on that one.)
