one of the most important lessons I’ve learned over the development of this game is that, as a director, the best thing you can do is admit you don’t know something and then your job becomes bringing together the people who do know and solving the problem with them ego is the death of creativity

the whole "author" thing is a curse, making a game should be like being in a band, everyone does their part for the thing to sound cool

This seems true in all sorts of design/entertainment type businesses. Film and TV are certainly no exception.

And odds are, if you get the three people who know together in the same room and tell them to figure it out, they will come up with a really killer answer.

Yeah the amount of directors that still think they somehow have to compete with their team and “know better” is staggering.

As a leader, that's one of my best strengths. Knowing the strengths of my team and knowing when to shut the hell up and let them cook. My job as a leader is to assemble experts and direct them when they go off rails. (As teams are wont to do)

This is also something I look for in interviews. If someone doesn’t know something and hides it, how can I trust them to come forward when they are having problems? The amount of times I hear about issues from team members at the last minute is to damn high.

I would add that ego will also be the death of what could be a good game.
