somehow it had never crossed my mind that you could host a pds using tailscale - are you using funnel to expose it to the internet?

yes. but, there's a caveat if you set it up using a docker. you need to add a volume target to where your tailscale socket installed on your 'compose.yaml' located inside the '/pds' directory. here's my configuration of what it looks like. :)
