If you want to try other stuff, by all means. But if you just want your computer to work and not be weird (yet), regular LTS Ubuntu with Cinnamon installed will do that.

I'm actually planning to switch in a year or two when I get a new PC (the fiasco that is Win 11 was the last straw for me, I am NEVER switching to that), but I was thinking of going Mint instead of Ubuntu, since it seems a little more geared towards ex-WIndows users.
