Iād like to mention AGAIN the damage that the public school/Oxbridge debating society ethos does to this country: seeing debates as amoral logic games, with kudos for winning a randomly assigned side of any argument. Trained in the weapons of oratory, but given no ethical limits on how to use them.

The ECHR obsession is why Brexit still needs to be challenged - Brexit was not a one off but the start of a mission to make Britain as isolated from the rest of the world as possible. ECHR removal is just the next step in that mission.
Property speculation plays a part but thereās also an issue with the quality that house builders and consumers find acceptable in the UK even if the home is intended to be a permanent one.
I suspect itās a combination of factors including low demand, lack of expertise, cost of importation etc. Anything a bit different is always expensive in UK construction. I was recently quoted Ā£5k for a pair of external sun blinds. I ended up driving them over for Germany for less than Ā£1k.
