Maybe it's difficult to pin down because what we're talking about is somewhat undefined in the first place -- tech authoritarianism? But IMO it has to do with the intersection of ridiculous levels of wealth and extremist ideas spread via online culture, which tech billionaires are knee deep in.

On one hand their worldview is certainly intertwined with racial supremacist ideas (along with a number of extremist/crackpot/conspiracy theorist narratives). But if you go to China or India I suspect you'll find people pushing similar ideas...

I think he's just saying the guy in the article is a POS, which is true!

Well as his name might suggest the guy in the article is not white. I think it has more to do with the "education" some people are getting over the internet -- in spite of all his money and success, he and Musk seem to have zero ability to filter out bad ideas.

Without pretending to fully understand the thoughts that are flying through the heads of people attending these rallies...life is short and being part of a larger cause probably gives it meaning, even if that cause involves singing along to "YMCA" as you support a wannabe fascist.

Great article and nice choice with the B+W photography. I still find it annoying how NYT adopted this trend of clickbait titles that don't convey as much information as they could (and sometimes are inaccurate). "Donald Trump Has Never Sounded Like This Before" -- actually he probably has.

And is Congress not aware of this? Seems very short-sighted on their part. I don't think it will be a popular move with voters at all.

I'm just explaining how decriminalization can be complicated due to the US system. What does that have to do with being a liberal? I didn't say Biden couldn't be doing more but you're not engaging with the details at all. And ultimately Biden is who the "regular people" in the USA voted for.

Your other article talked about how this law is probably unconstitutional. Do you think it would actually be overturned by the Supreme Court?

On the question of whether the president could unilaterally legalize marijuana, this talks about some of the limitations. That doesn't directly address the Border and Customs issue but I'd guess there are similar dynamics involved. crsreports.congress.gov/product/pdf/...
