I discovered oceanography was a science but making Taylor columns on the ENSTA rotating tank with Gurvan Madec and Herve Le Treut as our lab instructors

I'm now able to ncview my first test sample! My initial plan was to have 3 different resolutions: spectra computed over square boxes of size 40 km, 20 km and 10 km ... this is taking forever to generate... so ... we'll see if we also include 10 km.

🌊 The ocean is pretty flat here ... so I'm building up with SWOT L3 wave spectrum product (alpha version). Input is welcome. Some basic documentation will grow here : www.overleaf.com/read/xsmzppx...

🚨High winds (near 100 miles per hour) and large waves (over 23 feet) were caused by Hurricane Francine. View this Coastal Data Information Program (CDIP) bulletin for more information. ⬇️

Today I m using the quiet time on the train to finalize a first version of a SWOT L3 spectrum prototype that will be used in many investigations of storms, microseism and SWOT noise level. I ve just made my first NetCDF that works!... so much more to fill in...

The preeminent scientist studying the Amazon rainforest, Carlos Nobre, says he's "terrified" and never would have guessed how rapidly the Amazon is disappearing. A key thing to point out for folks not closely following the Amazon fires: most are set deliberately, to clear land for agribusiness.

That was a very lovely and unexpected honour: Blue Machine WON the Wainwright prize for conservation writing. I’m hoping that this will help even more people see themselves as citizens of an ocean planet, with all the richness, wonder and responsibility that entails. #WainwrightPrize2024

A long day at CNES for ODYSEA: to be remembered when the satellite will launch on a journey to map currents and winds.
