It is truly chilling to me to contrast how disasters used to look on Twitter and even Facebook a few years ago, to what the disaster information space looks like today. Sources pushing solid, accurate information have been almost totally pushed out in favor of violent, stupid death-cult lunatics.

Even after the takeover I've logged in regularly because I need the updates from official accounts, etc; last week I logged in at my place of work & my timeline was absolutely FILLED with graphic pornography from two once-professional, now hacked accounts I follow. Been afraid to log back in since.

It’s quite jarring when you take a step back and understand the communication structure that’s been dismantled and the resulting harm. Twitter played such a crucial role in understanding the scale of disasters and immediate needs of communities. Incredibly sad that reliable infrastructure is gone.

I know why every website decided to kneecap its internal search function and that only makes it more infuriating to desperately scour facebook for info on local wildfires and get nothing but MAUI SPACE LASERS garbage from over a year ago

Agencies need to move to Bluesky with some kind of verifiable official account.

And both companies are training their AI on that garbage.

Someone showed me a tweet about a trucker convoy heading to North Carolina to hunt FEMA because they said FEMA was looting to steal the land from locals. I can’t even. They believe this shit too. Scary stuff. 😞
