yeah, for me, I find it rather ridiculous to act like “not voting” will magically absolve you of any and all guilt or culpability one might feel
I mean I'm not sure that universally applies: when Biden was still the candidate I was on the fence but at the same time I had no illusions about the ramifications of it all. I think people online tend to present it as such but I don't think it's universal everyone has the same expectations
Or that your vote is some magical thing that must be kept utterly unsullied by never voting for anyone who is less than perfect As opposed to your paycheck, your relationships, your diet, your transportation, your energy use, your water use... Every day you already settle for doing the best you can
They're already pre-declaring "I won't feel bad and it'll be her fault not ours!" Haha no. A non-vote or 3p vote is puts you on the same moral level as the Americans who voted for Trump, the rapist.
It’s even more bizarre when you consider that they’re bragging about doing nothing in the face of existential threat.
Reconciling one’s existence with the inherent moral compromise of modern life while still striving to imperfectly do the right thing is, idk, what being a adult means to me
Trolley Problem motherfuckers who refuse to throw the switch because letting 5 die is better than letting 1 die but "feeling complicit."
In ‘16, right after the election, a contractor at a house I was working at asked me if I was happy w the results. I told it was a disaster. He agreed, then said he’d voted Libertarian. I told him he might as well have voted for Trump, and he cringed, and withered. They know they’re in the wrong
it feels like trying to “stay neutral”, tho i know it’s often from an impulse of trying to not be neutral. but i tend to look at results of actions when trying to decide what to do. not voting feels worse to me than getting my hands dirty trying to avoid a worse outcome.
