I've lived in countries that lack the food safety protections we have in the US, and I think a lot of Americans don't really understand just how frequent injuries and deaths from dangerous food are in places that lack even our own (absolutely imperfect) standards.

Prior admins have already weakened our food safety - all too often, fatally. Further destruction of food protection laws will put us back to The Jungle. www.history.com/news/upton-s...

The 1906 bestseller was one of the most influential books in American history—but not in the way its author intended.

I've visited a number of countries with running water, and found a bimodal distribution of answers when I've asked if the water is drinkable 1: of course 2: of course not there's sometimes 1a: yes, but we prefer bottled water (e.g., common in Italy)

Regulations (to protect the public) are often decried as “red tape” by populist politicians. That the shit that keeps us safe from corporations cutting corners to try and make more profit.

And US standards are pretty lax compared to EU. That's the dilemma for UK post brexit: whether to drop standards to gain access to US food market or stick to EU standards.

The US has fewer than 5000 deaths via contaminated food per year in a nation of 330+ million people! That’s actually a pretty good batting average in the broad scheme of things!

I had this problem a couple times in the military. Also once in Mexico when I'd been drinking and then drank the wrong non-alcoholic thing other than that.
