As recently as twenty-five years ago, Publix paid staff to collect carts. As with putting energy in vehicles, we do it ourselves because that’s the only option now. It’s part of how retail enterprises make more money as well as part of our civic duty because, well, others.

Local elections matter just as much.

Imagine if all the Democratic-leaning people in deep red states who don't bother voting because it doesn't matter actually voted, and made the margins 1%-2% tighter (not sure if there are that many people, but what the hell) in those states. I think that might freak some folks out.

I had this argument with my late partner who really, really, wanted to vote for Nader (There were WORDS) In the weeks following that election I did point out - once because I'm only sort of an asshole - that we were now desperately relying on *Florida* voters to have chosen to vote strategically

I want Harris to win California with 80% of the vote. It’s not just about winning, it’s about the message we send to would-be fascists

I figure everyone gets their first election to do a dumb vote because teenagers are dumb. But you only get that in the first vote. After that, do it right.

Do people need a reminder that down-ballots exist and support a given party candidate?

I remember back in 2000 there was a concerted online effort to pair up swing-state Nader voters with safe-state Gore voters to swap votes so that Nader could get whatever number he needed without jeopardizing Gore’s victory, and that whole thing seems positively quaint and wholesome now

"My vote doesn't count." Yes, it fucking does. Harris is going to win Massachusetts because collectively our votes matter. If you want to vote third-party, just do it, but don't try to explain it by saying your vote doesn't matter.

As much as I love to believe in my AnCom fantasy, shopping cart theory always shows just how far away we are from it. And no amount of accelerationism will get us any closer (that's how you get Napoleons).
