It is quite insane that cleaner (cheaper to produce) electricity is charged to the customer at 4 times per kWh than dirty gas. And the electricity daily standing charge is x 2 times that of gas. I can see there is a need to ratchet the change gradually so people can prepare to make the leap

Jan Rosenow's recent presentation on heat pump rollout in Sweden had a chart comparing the gas vs electricity price gaps among European countries, and this pretty much explains why it's so hard to persuade people to switch to heat pumps in the UK: bsky.app/profile/janr...
But, right now, just to tread water, installing a heat pump that has a 4:1 efficiency rate to replace a gas system would mean your power bill would remain the same…but you have the capital cost of installation and disruption to contend with.
