Not specifically, as I'm more interested in the production end, but I'm familiar with the claim, which is a quote from the director. I think VFX at the time is probably best understood like a guild system, and I can easily imagine how CG would seem invasive. Seems awfully topical right now.

Re: topical, I saw it used in a “people hated CGI just like they hate AI now” argument.

It was however nominated in a variety of other categories, and considering the prevalence and lasting impact of its effects shots, the lack of nomination in that category certainly gives the claim some weight.
