It's clear some of Labour's early struggles are self-inflicted, but I have a hard time working out how much is that and how much is an ultra-partisan Tory press willing to invent scandals out of whole cloth and a liberal intelligentsia committed to relentless miserabilism.

It does strike me that we've got the same basic problem Ed Miliband had of having no outriders, but worse. The pitch Starmer has created is aimed at those who are least political and whose voice is underrepresented in both media and discourse.
