A Clinton Era wrong has been undone.
More than 800 veterans who were dishonorably discharged due to Don't Ask Don't Tell policies will have their status upgraded to "honorable" automatically, allowing them to access veteran's benefits. www.bbc.com/news/article...
Openly gay Americans were not allowed to serve their country under the 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' law.
About time!
It's a start, but weren't there like 13,000 service ultimately discharged under DADT? Don't get me wrong, I'm glad these veterans have finally gotten some amends, but I'm hoping more is coming.
I'm honestly surprised it's taken this long to resolve this. I wouldn't have expected Trump or Bush to do it, but there's nearly 12 years of Obama/Biden where this should have happened already. Good that it finally happened though!
the benefit of this policy is that it gave me another reason to not join the military
Do they also get the 30+ years of back pay?
If you would like to argue about Don't Ask, Don't Tell being "good enough for the times", the dumpster is over there to go climb in. It was wrong then and we knew it.
Bloody about time. One of the many things I was annoyed at Obama about was not taking the 15 minutes fixing Don't Ask Don't Tell would've taken, along with descheduling marijuana. (The actual "identify all the people affected takes longer, ofc, but that's what delegation is for.)
My favorite part about this is that it's being done automatically
They finally pulled the knife out. Now the healing can begin, if there's any political will to do it.
