31 years later, 79 years since the scheme began, Toka Tū Ake – Natural Hazards Commission says their new name "better reflects the range of natural hazards we provide cover for, including tsunami, landslides, volcanic activity, earthquakes and geothermal activity."
The scheme continued with minor changes for 48 years until reforms in the 80s and in 1993 the Earthquake and War Damage Commission was renamed Earthquake Commission.

Toka Tū Ake – Natural Hazards Commission is the new name for Earthquake Commission (EQC) today, with the Natural Hazards Insurance Act 2023 coming into force. Toka Tū Ake administers the Natural Hazard Fund (formerly Natural Disaster Fund) and their insurance product NHCover (formerly EQCover).
