Sure, they're doing it for what they insist are good reasons. But what's that old saying? The one about the material structure of the path to hell? 'Protecting your child' is one of the most powerful emotional drives a human can experience. But that means it often has little time for 'logic' /7

Then there are the 'concerns' which underlie this potential smartphone ban/restriction. In order: "the prevalence of harmful content online" - Fair enough. But this is an issue that really should include the suppliers of such content. This is rarely the case. Also, 'harmful' is a loaded term /8

SFC said there was a litany of concerns about smartphones behind its campaign: the prevalence of harmful content online; the addictive nature of social media; distraction from schoolwork; and the links between excessive smartphone use and mental illness.
