On the Jeremy Vine Show today, I challenged Professor Myles Allen to a £100 bet: By 4th Oct 2034, the UK's carbon capture and storage programme will either have been scaled back, abandoned or need refinancing by the state. He was a bit evasive, but I hope to get his agreement.
He's still at it? He's been certain CCS is a crucial and central part of dealing with climate change (and that fossil fuel companies really want to implement it) for more than a decade now... 🙄😒
Easy money.
In 2034 your winnings will buy you a medium coffee.
What are you going to do with your 100£?
Sorry, not sorry, for spamming off-topic EU stuff. Would you mind promoting this official EU petition on #TaxTheRichcitizens-initiative.europa.eu/initiatives/...bsky.app/profile/anlo...
I remember attending his lectures when I was an undergraduate when he was maintaining that an international carbon tax was the way to 'solve' climate. There's been a long quest to find a silver bullet that involves changing nothing about our economy.
Just a £100?
The discussion is now online. You can hear it here, from 8.10: www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/...
Tina discusses carbon capture, skincare, partition of India and emails to the wrong person
and if you think £100 is a token amount now just wait and see what it's worth after a decade more of Accelerating Climate Cataclysm!
You'll win that one early.
