On average, when a government restricts a market, it costs money/welfare. We shouldn't be surprised in the result, given we're a service, knowledge-based economy. If you're suspicious of govt analyses, look for the ones that say "our cunning market restrictions make us richer"

We never seem to learn that anti migrant policies are economically damaging. That the losses are even greater than the investments required to facilitate a growing society. But it's worse now with the rural to urban shift wiping out the very towns that reject incomers.
