J.M. Barrie? He played cricket WITH Conan Doyle, as well as other luminaries including at some point or other H.G. Wells, Anthony Hope, Jerome K. Jerome and A.A. Milne - but it was Barrie’s team, the Allahakbarries. They were, by all accounts, terrible.
Aka, the "Losing Boys"?
He seems an odd fit for Weird Tales, though.
