TBH, I love The Name of the Rose and Foucault's Pendulum to pieces, but I haven't been able to finish any of Eco's later novels. I don't know why.

Those are his best by far. The rest are either homages to Calvino, Borges etc, but without the quality. Queen Loana is ok, but avoid Baudolino, which is a one-joke idea which stays well past its welcome. His essays are still great though, and Art & Beauty in the Middle Ages is a total gem of a book.
