Pro-tip: Leave the carrier out and open all the time. A clean towel, a toy, maybe a random treat just hanging out. Cats love caves. Occasionally, when cat is chilling in his cave, close the door, gently pick it up and move him to another safe happy place. Open the door, rinse and repeat.
Then be ruthless. If it doesn't pass your vetos, move on. If it isn't excellent on your important variable, move on. If it's tempting but doesn't fit your rules, save it, move on. Come back later if you realize why your rules were wrong. Once you have more than two possibilities, just pick one.
