Black voters are the backbone of the Democratic Party and a lot of white people of all political stripes have rejected this truth in favor of whatever they find most comforting

Despite the super clear and obvious polling data. Listening to White analysts recognize that the majority of White voters routinely vote Republican and then insist that minority voters are "along for the ride" when a Democrat wins is one of the most cognitively dissonant experiences in US politics.

Related to this is the refusal to acknowledge that no all-white, pro-democracy ticket has won since Barack Obama came on the scene. Biggest mistake Hillary made was not picking a brown/Black VP, not sending Bernie Sanders to Wisconsin instead of going herself.

I think there are a not-insignificant number who haven’t rejected that truth, they just hate it and will do anything to try and work around it. And will take the L over and over rather than even try to hear what Black voters are saying. And yes, they fall all the way across the political spectrum.

Black voters paid attention to the debate. White pundits paid attention to right-wing media.

there are many voices who seem really attentive to the needs and opinions of black Democratic voters when it would strengthen an argument against some progressive candidate or policy, and then, at other times, suddenly the awareness of that entire demographic vanishes, sometimes for long stretches

it's just obscene that we have to have this same fight every four years about something that's literally uncontroversial conventional wisdom.

Any Dem needs the Black nation to win, but so long as they don't have a credible threat to vote for someone else, the DNC never have to do anything to help them. The last time electoralism worked even a little for the Black nation was during the party switch. And direct action got most of the gains.

I had vaguely understood this for years, but you’ve helped me understand it much better. It’s REALLY obvious at this current moment.

Someone should tell the White Republican Governor of “South Carolina” who thinks democrats should be hunted with dogs.

including the Democratic National Committee! I had hoped Jaime Harrison would do something to get them out of their endless efforts to “win back the ‘Reagan Democrats’,” but alas, not so much did none of them read Steve Phillips’s Brown Is the New White? thenewpress.com/books/brown-...
