It's become habitual for some, especially here in the US, to lapse into thinking natural gas is the thing that helps us retire coal. No, it isn't. The UK for example zeroed out coal, and over twenty years still reduced its natural gas use in power by 30%. 🔌💡 www.coldeye.earth/p/election-r...

We built a lot of offshore wind and did loads of energy efficiency (mainly via EU product standards) to make it happen. The next decade will be harder for power, though, because we're electrifying cars and heat. That's why the UK is now aiming for ~3x more wind

It is also important to emphasise that fossil gas or methane (referred to by the fossil fuel industry as natural gas to sound more natural) is much more destructive to our climate in terms of emissions, when compared to coal. @justinmikulka.bsky.social
