Well-trodden territory I know, but I still have an element of genuine disbelief that the UK freely decided, unprovoked & unprompted by external or internal crises, to impose trade sanctions and travel restrictions on itself and exclude itself from key international forums and organisations. Bonkers🤦‍♂️

And it’s just normalised now that this happened. Something so crazy even proper nutters like Le Pen and Wilders have abandoned it. And for, really, no reason whatsoever.

It’s mad. Even the rejoiners can’t grasp they can’t have a bunch of special UK privileges to rejoin.

The people who voted for it repeatedly were easily led and wanted to blame forrins for their own failures in life. I have no sympathy for anyone after being scapegoated in 2016. An apt quote from the film Sharper… “You can’t cheat an honest man. That’s why you never feel sorry for the mark.”

Me too. It also saddens me deeply

I met someone this evening who had negotiated for the EU regarding customs arrangements. Very interesting views of the UK team (which confirmed all me worst suspicions)

The frustrating thing about UK politics today is that even a Remain voting PM elected by mostly Remain supporting voters has to play along. "We won't rejoin the EU in my lifetime." "Oh. Why?" "Can we please change the subject?" "OK. How about rejoining the single market?" "Change it further."

The whole thing was a triumph of epic degrees of dishonesty of a small band of opportunists who saw the whole thing as one giant wheeze and cared not a jot for the destruction their jolly jape might inflict on the nation they professed to love.

British people acting with total arrogance and then getting all befuddled when it blows up in their faces is one of the main things we are known for.

John Major made salient point lately about the 2008 financial crash and the last decade resembling many of the crises arising from the 1930s. A British version, I suppose, of the Spanish Civil War. However, I do feel the tide is beginning to go out on them.

Yes AND THEN act surprised when we had issues with growth and the economy. I sometimes think the reason politicians don't talk about it is some form of PTSD from shooting the country repeatedly in both feet, then the knees
