All of my library holds came in at once, so now I've got to decide which book is up first. THE EMPLOYEES or DEPT OF SPECULATION?

Book cover for THE EMPLOYEES by Olga Ravin. A partial image of a nude marble statue overlays what looks like microscope-captured image of something biological.
Book cover for DEPT OF SPECULATION by Jenny Offill. A blue backdrop with an image of the Milky Way. It is styled to look like holes have been cut from this image to reveal the title and author name.

None of this stuff really matters for climate change. The big items for us as individuals are: - how much & how clean we drive & travel - how much & how clean we heat & cool our homes (and we should heat and cool as much as we need to be safe) - the carbon intensity of what we eat - do we vote

If you are upset about how hot it already is in May, and want to actually do things to help the planet, here are places to start: -switch to solid shampoo, conditioner and soap -advocate for compost programs and greater funding for public transportation -buy fewer clothes -insulate your home

My latest cartoon for New Scientist.

First panel: a line of modern electric cars.

Second panel: A woman and a man are talking. She is holding a book.
She says "It's hard to get excited about these new electric cars when I've seen much ambitious possibilities in fiction"
"Sci-fi fan,huh?" he asks

Third panel.
"Uhh... yeah. Sci-fi." she says unsurely, looking at her book.

Fourth panel: We can see a page of the book. It shows animals happily driving food-shaped cars in the style of Richard Scarry. The cars are labelled: Pickle car, Apple car and Hotdog car.

Being kind to yourself is sometimes the hardest fucking thing you will do in a day, and there should be some sort of certificate that gets mailed to you if you even make the attempt.
