“Murdertainment” as Prof. David Wilson calls it crosses a line. It would be useful if people who deal with murder everyday - lawyers, judges, the police would speak out about this more broadly. Murders impact families, communities and society.

My feelings about our interest in killers is complex. No one should be shamed for finding human psychology fascinating - the fields of criminology, criminal justice and the police need you. Murder is deserving of careful handling and consideration. This exhibition is not that.

I don’t want to give this “exhibition” anymore publicity, but I find this carnival celebrating serial killers currently doing the rounds utterly disgusting. Not a single mention of the human beings they destroyed - but you can see the weapons used and where the bodies were kept.

So in other words, if you were hoping to spot an ugly ass Cyber Truck, you were in the right place.

Alex, my enduring memory of my first visit back to LA after Covid was that the whole place was just Teslas and weed.

In 1771, historian Catherine Macaulay burned herself out so badly writing the fifth volume of her recent history of England that she spent four months eating ice cream and bathing in the sea to recuperate. Writers, I present to you your role model.

I’m so glad it changed your way of thinking. For them, it’s about ego - people who have spent years, if not decades defining themselves by their knowledge of the crimes feel that they are now being told they’re wrong. It has nothing to do with the women and everything to do with them.

They’re still very angry. They’ve wiped all mention of my work from the 5 women’s Wikipedia entries. Any time someone tries to change anything, or even add my book to the bibliography, it’s usually erased within the hour. It’s about ownership of these women, and men who have staked their egos on it.

There was a way out for Annie, but social norms and pressures, and shame - heaps of shame that society put on her for being a ‘failed woman’ - a bad mother and wife, brought her to her encounter with Jack the Ripper. A tragedy on so many levels. 3/3

Annie was suffering deeply before her death. With the help of her family, she had tried unsuccessfully to overcome the alcohol addiction that she had inherited from her father. She & her husband had then parted ways. Her sisters tried to help her, but Annie was racked with shame. 2/3
