I live in France and own and run a gite. France has strict rules around amounts of holiday accommodation in one area. When limits are reached, that's it. I'm in a village with two other holiday lets one of which is luxury end. Second homes are rare but not unheard of, mainly Parisians.

That's exactly what's required here - I have no issue with holiday lets (I worked in the industry for 7 years) if the balance is sustainable and it's not impacting on local housing availability.
