No two-factor backup code? WhatsApp has actual procedures so you can get your messages back. Maybe he just “forgot” it.

I don’t believe that the messages have been lost unless they were deliberately deleted. Sunak should be sanctioned. It is contempt for the Inquiry.

Given the propensity of the thing currently wearing the Conservative Party's skin to lie, I'm not saying that's at all what happened, just that it's a reasonable claim and therefore the messages are effectively gone.

I guess if he'd been advised to change phone because someone believed the existing one might be compromised, in that scenario you wouldn't transfer data, and then if there's no cloud backup, they're gone.
