In 1153 the Earl of Leicester established Nuneaton Priory & set the monks up with property & rents. But no eels! Turns out, he had already promised the eels from his holdings in Welles to the church of St. Mary de Prato of Leicester. Sometimes there's just not enough eels... 🗃️🧪

Meme. Photograph of the ruins of Nuneaten Priory. There is very little left of it; a couple of broken walls, and some deep memories. You could build a model of this pretty easily with Lego scraps. Founded in the 12th C., at one time Nuneaton was a thriving religious community. But it was seized in 1539 during the Dissolution of the Monasteries, and that was the end of the road. Putting the "prior" back in priory, I guess. More seriously, ruins like this make me wonder: do the stones remember the prayers and dreams and lives of the monks? Do they remember the dark earth before they were quarried and cut and bound to one another. Is there time and life bound up in the ruins, layered one long-gone soul on another like leaves on a forest floor? I like to think so. I want for history and memory to build up in places over time, and to know that we walk through these as we move across the world. Meme text reads: "When it comes to eels...
