Not every strip can be Olivia Jaimes "Nancy" or Randy Milholland's "Popeye", but they don't all have to be zombie placeholders hoping for a resurgence in the IP. Give an artist who doesn't have the creator's last name a chance and maybe you'll see that resurgence.
I learned today that Gasoline Alley is still in production. And instead of trying to do the cool art literacy stuff I associate with old Gasoline Alley, they just try to trace the loose line work and prewar Orphan Annie eyes on (only some of) the characters. Not great.
