You know what Wayne Gretzky's Dad said about the wisdom of questionable creative endeavors? He said "Milholland is a fuckin talent, you should hear him out." (I may be paraphrasing.)
I cannot over-emphasize the colossal loser energy of taking a platform where once the biggest stars in the history of popular culture voluntarily posted original content every day because they enjoyed it into a pyramid scheme where the worst dipshits on earth pay to be fake friends with each other.
Art Nouveau is when stuff looks like it was made by Elves. Art Deco is when stuff looks like it was made by Dwarves.
For the love of God @montressor
Not every strip can be Olivia Jaimes "Nancy" or Randy Milholland's "Popeye", but they don't all have to be zombie placeholders hoping for a resurgence in the IP. Give an artist who doesn't have the creator's last name a chance and maybe you'll see that resurgence.
I learned today that Gasoline Alley is still in production. And instead of trying to do the cool art literacy stuff I associate with old Gasoline Alley, they just try to trace the loose line work and prewar Orphan Annie eyes on (only some of) the characters. Not great.
Syndicated print comics are weird. It's totally normal to have a 1960s era strip being drawn today by the creator's grandkids. It's normal to have the credit still going to an artist who has been dead forty years, but the estate still wants merch rights so the name stays on.
I had no idea Gasoline Alley was still in production. That's awful.
WXPN's Kathy O'Connell is a treasure. Tonight on Kids Corner she warned children that Jimmy Kimmel might convince their parents to trick them into believing they had eaten all their Hallowe'en candy. "Be patient with your parents, kids." She's the best.
Today I learned that Skaven are not the same thing as Ratlings Thank you, Jamie
