'Not only genius feats of engineering but genuinely beautiful architectural forms' - playwright James 'Sherwood' Graham on power station cooling towers. He who wants to preserve a set as a monument. Agree? We at the C20 Society have started a petition: www.change.org/p/save-brita...
Save Britain's Cooling Towers
Interesting idea. I'm not convinced, but not opposed either.
We lost the ones at Sheffield, such motorway placemarks they were. Then the unique iconic pink ones at Ironbridge. Such a shame at least one wasn't preserved to keep that incredible design & construction feat for future generations to admire.
They should be cleaned. But basically yes, they are absolutely stunning sculptural forms.
Done! But… as I’ve experienced before on Change.org, the site assumes I’m from Turkiye (why?!) and sends the confirmation email in Turkish!
I was horrified when they pulled down the ones in Ironbridge, they were a part of its industrial history and landscape
