Not the sort of torment I was expecting, really. "I’m convinced there must be some other game called Planescape: Torment out there, because the game I cleared was one of the most misogynistic wastes of time I’ve ever experienced." kimimithegameeatingshemonster.com/2024/10/08/p...

Planescape Torment: Never meet other people’s heroes
Planescape Torment: Never meet other people’s heroes

[Content warning: This article cites misogynistic dialogue in several places and also refers to in-game scenes of relationship-related abuse.] I’ve had my eye on this RPG for a long time now,…

Not only does Sleeping Dogs (2012) feature the voice of future Oscar-winner Emma Stone, there is some incredible meta foreshadowing in one of the first lines spoken to her character being "you thinking of becoming Chinese?"

A screenshot from Sleeping Dogs (2012). Main character Wei Shen is on a motorbike with a white woman called Amanda (voiced by Emma Stone) behind him. He asks "So what brings you to Hong Kong? You thinking of becoming Chinese?"
Screenshot of an Entertainment Weekly article from 2015 titled "I'm not buying Emma Stone as an Asian-American in Aloha" by Chris Lee.

The text reads:
"Accepting Emma Stone as an Asian-American in Aloha requires a certain suspension of disbelief and no small amount of magical thinking. In the Hawaii-set romantic comedy-drama, she portrays Allison Ng: an aggressively peppy Air Force fighter pilot of Chinese-Hawaiian-Swedish decent who falls for an existentially angst-y military contractor played by Bradley Cooper."

By 2012, seven different Tom Clancy games had reached #1 in the UK charts - more than Sonic or Zelda or Tomb Raider. I wrote about their paranoid simplicity and their approach to war as a video game: www.superchartisland.com/tom-clancys-ghost-recon-future-soldier

“Nimble Guardian” – Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier

*It's CD-i. They were distributing background music for stores on CD-i.* And I've found a CD-i Muzak disc from *2010* that they made, probably one of the last. Until now I thought CD-i died off in the early 2000s, ca 2002/2003. Looks like I was off by an entire decade.

I finished Mooncat! Most compellingly weird one so far. Then I tried to go straight to something with normal platforming controls and they suddenly felt alien and baffling #UFO50

Screenshot from UFO 50 showing Mooncat as completed with a bet time of 00:42:32.137

40 years ago, 80s band Thompson Twins were on CVG's cover, promoting an adventure game that you had to send off for. It came on a flexi-disk (a very thin record) that involved a fair bit of dicking around to work. Very few people sent off for it. Just far too complex for most.

Normally avoid trans discourse here, but can we cut this fucking "haha terf island basically all British people are terfs" shit out please? It's not only untrue, but spreading it emboldens actual terfs while also making British baby transes feel like nobody has their backs. It's deeply unhelpful.

A screenshot of a skeet ranting about how 90% of "terf island" are terfs. I've removed the user name, as don't want to drag them personally, and more commenting on an attitude I've seen a lot here.

Multiple posts showing how wrong the "art" can be = "Repeated single user engagement over a wide variety of topics" Viral mocking of a prompted poem = "This single prompt generated extended reach" Using Twitter's AI service exclusively to mock it = "Lots of active engagement on a popular topic"

Batman towering over you, snapping the wooden stock of a shotgun in half with his bare hands as he says "This is the weapon of the enemy. We do not need it. We will not use it."

The shotgun is labeled - fragmented where it has been snapped in half - "AI (even if you're making fun of it)"
