It’s nuts. We are lucky that it is an option.

If anyone has read this far, I appreciate you taking the time. It all sucks, but it's a reality that our parents and us are both at risk for. And the more educated we are, the happier and healthier we can all be. Love to all. Take control of your own fate. Out. 21/21

6. Read books to your kids like The Remember Balloons to explain aging to them. Read books like The End of Alzheimer's to take your fate into your own hands. 7. Finally--talk. Talk about it. To everyone. Today. It's a horrible thing but something we can all face together. 20/?

5. THERAPY. IT WORKS. I said goodbye to my dad 6 years ago and I'm the only one who can deal with it now. I'm still sad, but the person I'm dealing with isn't my dad. Just someone else that I love but don't know. It feels cold, but it's the only way. 19/?

4. Look at your own will/estate and speak to your family. My wife and I have an agreement that we move into a facility immediately after a diagnosis, even if it means living separately. It's the only way to save the caretaker. 18/?

3. If a relative is diagnosed, be direct and brutal from go. Tell them of these disasters and force them into a facility as soon as possible. They'll be independent at first, but having the option to advance to Memory Care in a familiar place is 1000x better. 17/?

2. Don't get diabetes. Sounds simple, but we all watch other markers and ignore those. Eliminating inflammatory foods--namely dairy, sugar, gluten and red meat--can do a tremendous amount. Social/mental stimulation and exercise are even more important. 16/?
