Little Henriette spent the war with Jan and Geesina Kruger and their five adult children in a small seaside town to the south of Amsterdam. The Krugers called her "Rita" and pretended she was the illegitimate child of their unwed eldest daughter.

It's so extremely simple that it feels stupid to type it out. But next time you notice some god-awful take, see if it isn't this exact fallacy that's at the heart of it.

Yes, some Israelis (and non-Israeli Jews) use dehumanizing language against Palestinians, and are fine with (or even welcome) violence against Palestinian civilians. But they are a SUBSET of those who are mourning Hamas's victims, aching for thier loved ones in Israel, etc.
