For all speaker registrations, the registration rate remains the same. For all others that were registered as in-person attendees, these registrations will be converted to virtual participants and refunded the difference.

We believe that the safety of those traveling to the conference, those working at the hotel, and those in the area who run the greatest risk of being adversely affected by the hurricane is at the crux of this decision. As such, IEEE VIS 2024 will now be fully virtual.

Given Hurricane Milton’s trajectory and potential for catastrophic impacts to the Tampa area, the Visualization Executive Committee (VEC), in consultation with the VGTC and IEEE, sadly feel that it is best to convert the conference to fully virtual.

IEEE VIS Community, thank you all for your patience as our conference organizing committee has been discussing the developing emergency situation for Tampa, with Hurricane Milton approaching. We hope for the safety of all during this severe weather event.

Our thoughts are with all who may be affected by the storm.

We have established a communication protocol with the Hilton Tampa leadership to get updates on any potential impacts on our operations once the storm has passed. As soon as we have an update, we will communicate this information to everyone via e-mail and on our website.

We wanted to provide a quick update on Hurricane Milton. We've been tracking Milton since it became a tropical depression on Friday evening and are watching the storm closely as it nears Florida. At present, we still hope to have VIS take place in-person at the Hilton Tampa.

We also want to thank the broader community, especially attendees, for your patience and trust during this process. So, pack your shorts, swimsuits, and a sweater (seriously, the a/c), and we’ll see you in Tampa! 🩴
