Much like chess or day trading, data analysis is something that people like to imagine they'd be good at if they just had the time

arguably everyone is bad at day trading!

Like chess, if they do put some study time in almost anyone can be reasonably competent. Ditto to the other poster pointing out that *no one* is good at day trading.
