Yes, I've long theorized that Debate (as a school subject/activity) does harm, because it might lead impressionable kids to think that being good at arguing is what *makes* a person's position correct. Also reinforces the idea of arguments being A or B, when IRL it's more often X^Y-Z+2
More people need to understand that being persuasive is orthogonal to being correct

It might have been because the form of debating I did involved you being randomly assigned the position you're going to argue, but I found that much more taught people that the skill with which you make your arguments is what matters in a debate, but that doesn't mean it's actually correct.
Future lawyers love it because lawyers argue whatever they're paid to argue
