It’s finally here! I’m officially starting my Royal Society University Research Fellowship at the University of York today! Looking forward to spending the next years understanding the complexities of #biodiversity change taking place across time and space.
🚨New paper! Is homogenization really that more common than differentiation? - not really, our latest work shows that one pattern can be as common as the other. Another great work and collaboration led by this amazing team👇
The lack of evidence for declining local diversity through time must be because everything is homogenizing, leading to larger-scale losses. Right?! Nope, says our analysis of 500+ meta-communities through time just published in Science Advances 🧪🌎🐟🌳🦋 🐦🦌 www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...
Homogenization is most common at large temporal and spatial scales but is balanced by differentiation at smaller scales.
🚨Still time to apply for one of these exciting opportunities! 8 fully funded PhD studentships! ▶️Deadline extended to 31st Jan!!! Come and join us - projects across a range of departments - one wild card project up for grabs too! Apply here👇
🚨Another important piece of the puzzle! - Roel and collegues expand on there 2020 analysis 🕷🐜🦋🐛🦗 to show us that being abundance doesn't necessary mean you are doing fine... 👇 www.nature.com/articles/s41...
An analysis of more than 500 sites distributed worldwide finds that declines in the abundance of terrestrial insects are attributable mainly to decreases in species that were formerly abundant, r...
Happy I got the chance to come early and see some stunning sights. Now looking forward for tomorrow's @britishecolsoc.bsky.social#BES2023#Belfast
Making my way to Belfast for the #BES2023@britishecolsoc.bsky.social Annual Meeting next week! Let me know if you will be around. But for now some sightseeing is on the cards. Any suggestions?
Great to see the first paper coming out from Shuyu Deng's PhD today: "Human modification of land cover alters net primary productivity, species richness and their relationship" onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/... Using existing global datasets, she shows how humans are changing biodiversity. 1/
I never really posted many photos on the other one..although you do get some cool stuff with just your smartphone sometimes. Since @cmbeale.bsky.social was kind enough to invite me here (and he loves posting pics) I will just say thanks with this little fellow I saw last week. Sorry it's not a bird!
