yeah, for me it's "delete on seeing the subject line" territory. I don't even want to know how it may come together.

Oh no, not againā€¦ (he seems to get a different group every time and is remarkably persistent)

OMG, no, because that one is new to me. Thanks for the donation. Next time... (I assume the next time with Pyrrhus and Hannibal will be first, so then)

This is such a tricky thing in classics because Routledge publishes so much good, important stuff and has gone for the dark side so enthusiastically.

It's intro to Beast Hunts day for the Bread and Circuses class, so the amazing Lake Bacon Project comes to class...(not that there's a shortage of wild ideas the U.S. had in the early 20th century, but this is definitely on the list)

Lake Bacon: The Story of The Man Who Wanted Us to Eat Mississippi Hippos
Lake Bacon: The Story of The Man Who Wanted Us to Eat Mississippi Hippos

Nearly a century ago, three men waged a quixotic campaign to bring African hippos to the American dinner table that ended up on Capitol Hill.

Ideally, yes. I imagine this is where there are problems.

And if itā€™s something thatā€™s important to your admissions process, put it on the website (this seems to be the case with Chicago, who give you instructions and let you know that the application will have a space to mention which faculty member you talked to)

It is important to understand that it is impossible to get ChatGPT to provide you with original material. What it does is the exact opposite of that, by design. Even if you explicitly ask for something new, it can neither do that, nor tell you that it's incapable. Four of these five names exist.

A screenshot of a ChatGPT conversation.

The prompt is "Generate five typical apartment complex names that do not currently belong to a real apartment complex in the United States."

The results are :
"Here are five fictional apartment complex names:

Cedarbrook Heights,
Pine Ridge Commons,
Sunset Grove Apartments,
Willow Crest Residences,
Lakeside Haven Apartments,
These names are designed to sound realistic and appealing while being entirely made up!"

ClassicsTober 6 Meleager of Gadara is best known for his love epigrams and his anthology called The Garland, written in Greek. He lived in the 1st c. BCE, was born in present-day Jordan, grew up in Tyre in modern Lebanon, and lived on the Greek island of Kos. #ClassicsTober2024#ClassicsTober24

Drawing of Meleager writing an epigram while mosquitoes fly about and bite his girlfriend, who is trying to sleep on a couch. The poem reads "O shrill-voiced mosquitoes, you shameless pack of bloodsuckers, Night's flying beasts of prey, let Zenophila sleep a little in peace..."

Thereā€™s an entire oxygen and IV bar industry in tourist towns, which gives you a very exaggerated sense of the issue. It starts in the Denver airport, btw. You can pick between regular airport bar and oxygen bar. The oxygen is more expensive, of course.
