You're right, but something about the design language strikes me as too similar. I especially hate the monocultures ST writers seem to create. I really liked the designs of the Klingons in Undiscovered Country, showing that they are just as varied as humans are.

That's fair - but, counterpoint: Here's Vulcan, Tellarite, Andorian, and Denobulan ships, the four species that founded the Federation with the Humans. I definitely feel like these are visually distinct design languages, each of which suggests something about that species' sensibilities.

A vulcan ship, a sleek aerodynamic hull with a shark fin connecting to a warp ring.
A tellarite ship from three perspectives, a squashed egg of a hull with warp nacelles inside green sections on either side with a seperate convention/impulse engine section connected to the back by long horizontal pylons.
An andorian ship, a raptor-like design with a central fuselage, over-under warp engines on the back of the main column, and wings holding weapons mountings.
A denobulan ship, a squat teardrop design without obvious weapons or engines.
