The three bank holidays in the UK are the Early May bank holiday, the Spring bank holiday in late May, and the August bank holiday: today. What should they be called? What should the activities and foods be?
We have two bank holidays in Scotland which are never acknowledged and a majority of employers don't give people the time off for it. One is the 2nd January the other is St Andrews Day. Only Scottish civil servants working for the Scottish government get these holidays.
May used to have traditions involving village fetes and the maypole, so at least one of those should be dedicated to local history and crafts. The other May holiday could be a celebration of gardens and growing things. Botanical gardens, garden centers, forests, allotments etc.
